While visiting a buddy in Tuscon recently we decided to go out for Mexican food. Four hours later we were in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. Puerto Penasco aka Rocky Point is an old fishing village located about 60 miles south of the border on the Sea of Cortez and has long served as a beach resort / weekend getaway for folks from Arizona.
First stop after loading up on pesos and refilling the cooler was a small family run oyster farm on the Morua esturary. The oyster farm has one rusty table, 2 chairs a strict BYO policy and the freshest and finest oysters I've ever tasted.
$5.00 for a Mexican dozen (14)
After our oyster apitizer it was time for dinner. We decided to do a taco tour of Puerto Penasco and it was agreed that for the sake of authenticity we would eat only in places frequented by locals.
El Rey Del Taco with its handy outdoor sink was our first stop
Tacos al vapor and carnitas
Stop number 2 was a fantastic burrito bar.
Stop number 3 turned out to be the best and final stop. We had hit Taco Nirvana
I may never eat Al Pastor again !
Up next.....The road to Agua Chile[
