I need some help my fiance is heading to Sacramento for a business trip and I was hoping somebody could give me some suggestions. The caveat she is a vegetarian who eats shell fish (don't know what that is actually called). Suggestions for drinks esp wine are also very welcome. She will be staying downtown and spending a lot of time at the court house wherever that is. P.S. This isn't my first post, used to contribute regularly but have been on military duty for the last 18 months and have forgot many aspects of my former life including my username here.

We were just there in January, and had a very nice dinner at The Waterboy. Simple, French-inspired stuff. The entrees we had don't appear to be on the menu at the moment, but they do great things with sweetbreads. Our favorite of the trip.

We also did Biba, which is delicious, but more like dressed-up trattoria fare than Italian fine dining. Her food's great... just a little overpriced and in needlessly upscale surroundings.

Avoid The Firehouse. They've somehow built a reputation as Sacramento's premiere fine dining, but it's hotel food, and not even good hotel food. I felt like I was at a wedding reception.

We didn't get a chance to sample, and I can't make specific suggestions, but there's an amazing run of Vietnamese restaurants along Stockton Blvd. a mile in either direction from 47th. You could spend a year exploring everything -- it's that huge.

The LTH Search Function is your friend. It would lead you to this.

And the Bohemian place is great!

nothing shocking here - these seem to be popular places and I'd return to each of them.

Shoki Ramen House: seriously good ramen (bonus of a somewhat sustainable/more healthful approach). casual, a little quirky, pretty small space, usually crowded but wait goes quickly. vegetarian & gluten-free options available http://shokiramenhouse.com/

Magpie Cafe: local, seasonal, casual - went here a few times and tasted a good chunk of the menu - the banh mi was the table favorite but everything was pleasing - only negative is that it can be very noisy inside http://www.magpiecafe.com/cafe

Ella's - farm to table - kinda like a finer-dining Maudes/Gilt - the chef's special of the day (pork for 2pp with sides) was excellent and very memorable http://www.elladiningroomandbar.com/

The Waterboy - farm to table, French/Italian - as said upthread, simple, well executed and satisfying - great drinks, too. http://www.waterboyrestaurant.com/

Mulvaney's B&L - farm to table, http://mulvaneysbl.com/ - tried a bunch of smaller plates - most were hits. (ps, the chef is a serious Blackhawks fan). :)

Biba's - still good (& pricey) - understandably famous lasagna available only on Thursdays & Fridays - also enjoyed a perfectly cooked halibut http://www.biba-restaurant.com/

didn't make it to Kru but heard great things about it. http://www.krurestaurant.com/
