    Hello!

    Looking for a Japanese/teppanyaki joint in the Indianapolis area. We're willing to drive to the burbs or downtown!

    Thanks

    It has been a couple of years since I spent any significant time in Indianapolis, but I really liked Mikado when I was there on a weekly basis. http://www.mikadoindy.com/index.html They mention on their website that they have stopped serving teppanyaki, but you might call and confirm that. Everything I've sampled here is quite good, but the focus is clearly on very fresh sushi.

    I'll also mention that I've had nothing but disappointing experiences at the highly touted Sakura, a favorite Indy sushi spot. I've been several times over the years and can't figure out what the fuss is. It is very crowded and noisy, has a charming interior, friendly (if slow) staff, but the sushi just doesn't blow me away. They do not offer teppanyaki. http://indysakura.com/index.php

    I haven't eaten there, but I understand that Sapporo serves teppanyaki. I have some friends that like it but cannot personally testify to the quality of the food.

    Of the usual suspects, I'd probably rank them
    as Mikado>Daruma>Ocean World>Saporro>
    H2O>Sakura>>Sushi on the Rocks>
    Forty Five Degrees. A new-comer that
    I haven't tried yet, but I've heard is worth
    checking out is Buda Lounge. But my
    hidden gem rec would be Oishi Sushi
    & Grill
    (just west of Shadeland on 10th).
    Though located in a former Ponderosa,
    the interior is actually serene and stylish;
    the food fresh and well-presented.
