My last couple of visits to New Yeah Shanghai Deluxe have left me somewhat less than satisfied, both from the standpoint of food and service. But I'm happy to report I've found a nearby spot that more than takes its place:
Shanghai Asian Cuisine on Elizabeth Street.
I started with an order of steamed pork buns (soup dumplings):

While not picture perfect as the porky pillows at Nan Jian, these babies packed a slightly sweet, satisfying soupy slurp.
I didn't get a picture of my double sauteed pork, but it was delicious; thin slices of tender pork belly, black bean, bell pepper, cabbage, black mushroom and chewy tofu, all in a rich, black sauce, served over rice.
