Visiting friends in South Carolina, we stopped into EVO (Extra Virgin Oven) in North Charleston for a casual dinner. This bustling, friendly place has a wine/beer bar up front and a pleasant, if a bit noisy, dining area farther back. Everything on the menu, which features mostly pizza and salads, is locally sourced. The four of us split two delicious heirloom lettuce and apple salads and ordered two pizzas. Pardon the low-light phone-cam; ours was a 12" Margherita with half house-made sausage:

The pizza compares favorably to the Neapolitan-style pies you can find in New York and Chicago. It has a nice, chewy semolina crust with a few blackened bubbles, simple tomato sauce and creamy local mozzarella on top. In my view, its only shortcoming is the center of the crust, which is a bit soggy. I know some of you like it that way, but I prefer it crisp in the middle. We enjoyed several beers, including Coast, a very good local brew.
Dessert is limited to their house-made chocolates, so we shared one of their salted caramel-filled dark chocolate candy bars for a (not too) sweet finish to an enjoyable meal.
