Road suggestions: Little Rock, Waco, Laredo

In a few days we'll be on the road to Mexico, at a fairly leisurely pace with the dogs. We'll be stopping in Little Rock, Waco, and Laredo before heading over the border. Does anyone have any suggestions? We'd be grateful for any tips, we generally haven't had good luck in those spots before.
