I have recently moved out from Chicago back to Ann Arbor. I haven't yet found an online site quite like LTH for food discussion in the Ann Arbor/Detroit/Michigan area yet, so this will have to do for now.
I had some amazing soul food at the Elks Lodge this weekend. I never knew this place existed - it's just west of Main St in the neighborhood there. They have live jazz and soul food on Thursday-Saturday nights. The chefs that run the kitchen were previously at Eve, Frita Batidos and The Gandy Dancer. The menu is simple soul food - ribs, fried chicken, fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas, corn bread, mac'n'cheese. At $10 a plate, it's easily the best cheap eats in town. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and yet was somehow not overly greasy.
I did a more complete write-up on my blog
Great Lakes, Better Food.
