The North Country is famous for its
Michigan Hot Dog, a variation on a Coney Red Hot. The region of provenance is centered on Plattsburgh NY, on I-87 about 20 miles south of the border. I'd tried a couple of the local shoppes but wasn't particularly impressed. Then, last week, I pulled in off of US-9 and gave the original Michigan shoppe a try. Bingo! I understood what was up.
Clare and Carl's Texas Red Hots hasn't changed since 1950 or so: U-shaped bar inside, picnic tables outside, service in your car. The chili sauce has a distinctive flavor, with a nice burn, and they put plenty of sauce on the good-quality hot dog. You order it "with" or "without" small diced onions. The fries are nicely done as well. If you're on your way to Montréal, or over in Burlington VT, it's worth a visit.

PS. Sorry no pix of my own, although the Sterns have plenty in the cited URL above. I've screwed up my flickr account and can't make it work anymore. Gotta figure out something new...
Sooo, you like wine and are looking for something good to read? Maybe
*this* will do the trick!
