    Brandy Alexander

It's open At Random, although my sister assures me they are almost always open on the weekends. They have a 15 page drink menu, full of fruity drinks and ice cream drinks. No beer or wine. The atmosphere of the place can't be beat. It's dimly lit and hasn't been redecorated since about 1965. Check out the pictures on their Yelp page: http://www.yelp.com/biz/at-random-milwaukee

Fun place, more for atmosphere (dark room, stained glass lamps, red Christmas lights, surly service) than high quality drinks, though. We usually stick to the alcoholic milkshakes, which are tasty and filling.

What a fabulous old bar! I think I'm going to enjoy working my way through the menu here. Our service was quite friendly, and the drinks were delicious. It's definitely worth visiting when you're next in Milwaukee.

Don't expect modern cocktails -- this is pure 1960s. Although they can do most standard drinks, the emphasis is on tiki drinks and alcohol-laced ice cream drinks. (They also have a short list of nonalcoholic versions for teetotalers.) My brandy alexander was delicious, very large, heavily nutmegged and $9. (Excuse the fuzzy phone photo -- it's very dark inside and I didn't want to use a flash.) Neither the menu nor the establishment is as large as Hala Kahiki, but it has the same feel, though more laidback.

Be prepared -- it's cash only.
