Last week, I recapped the first portion of our northern Michigan roadtrip here.. This post will cover the second half of our trip - the Uppern Peninsula portion where we went to Tahquamenon Falls & Pictured Rocks.

As soon as we crossed the Mackinac Bridge, we made our first stop at Clyde's Drive-In in St Ignace just across the bridge. Clyde's is your classic old-school drive-in with burgers, shakes/malts, and also a few UP items like perch and whitefish. The burgers were not the frozen patty variety and hit the spot.

We had planned on stopping at Brown Fisheries in Paradise for some smomked whitefish, but they were out of fish! There was a shortage of whitefish across the area due to the warmer weather causing the fish to go to deeper water.

We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park at the Lower Falls area, very nice scenery at the campground located on the Tahquamenon River just past the lower falls. We hiked up to the Upper Falls and stopped by the brewery located at the Upper Falls.

After Tahquamenon, we were on to Pictured Rocks. At Pictured Rocks we did the sunset cruise along the Rocks and did the Chapel Loop hike the next day which takes you out on top of the Rocks. Just amazing scenery all round.

We stopped and ate lunch at that last pic. Back to the food - in Munising, we finally found some smoked whitefish at VanLandschoot & Sons Fisheries located on the water. Very cool place, definitely a no frills experience, but the whitefish was on point.

Finally, we stopped at Johnny Dogs in Munising, which is much more than just a hot dog joint. I got the blacked cajun whitefish sandwich (basically a po' boy) while my wife got the Homewrecker dog - a deep fried dog with chili, bacon and cheese.

On our way back home, we got our first pasty (don't know why we waited so long) at Lehto's just outside of St Ignace.

These are more than just a novelty, it was delicious.

I've got a bit more written up at my blog - here.

Nice write up. I happen to believe that Lake Superior is one of this country's hidden jewels (and I hope it stays that way) and Pictured Rocks is a wonderful Lake Superior Park.
