Sorry about the reason for your visit. When I have had those times, some good food helps a little bit. Seems like the food trucks have discovered hospital staff are a good bet- seems to be the case in on the East Side of Manhattan, and here in St. Louis, too. Maybe upper Manhattan, too.
The nearest I can get you for food is Artur Ave. in the Bronx - not far away, but you would need a car or to spring for a cab. A little search on the other board yielded this suggestion: El Presidente, (165th and Broadway) a Dominican place for good cheap roast chicken. Other suggestions a short walk away:
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/707142#5627558If your stay stretches out for any reason, I can recommend a less expensive Manhattan extended stay hotel: The Marmara on 94th St around 2nd Ave. It's quite nice and you get a suite with a kitchen for $140 or so a night. Shorter stays are around $200/night for the large one bedroom suite with kitchen. Believe it or not, that is a bargain for Manhattan!
