A friend of mine is headed to Paris and Monte Carlo. He's looking for restaurant suggestions in Paris and anywhere around Monte Carlo,Nice, Cannes. He's staying in Monte Carlo. He doesn't need a three star joint, just something not quite as formal and reasonably priced. The wife eats a lot of fish, and a little meat. He's a vegetarian. They will be celebrating their 50th birthdays in Monte Carlo so would like a nice meal there, but don't want to spend $400. 3 nights Paris and 4 nights Monte Carlo. I'd say they have to do a bistro somewhere in Paris and anything else anyone can recommend.

It's going to be very hard not to spend a lot of money for dinner in Monte Carlo.

If he rethinks the budget, Alain Ducasse's LE LOUIS XV is next to the casino.

I would suggest a trip to the medieval village of Eze, up on a cliff nearby. There are some nice, albeit touristy spots up there. I stayed and ate at Chevre d'Or in Eze, which is spectacular but, again, expensive. There are some good, but generic dockside cafes in Cap Ferrat where one can get a solid bourride for a reasonable price.

Now, in Nice your pal can fall into any number of good, cheap meals. Here is my favorite shellfish bar in the world, and that's saying something:

Le Safari is a popular and good option too.

And I should emphasize that the food on the Cote d'Azur and in Liguria is uniformly outstanding, even when compared with other parts of France and Italy.

    Andy :) (remember me??)

I use to live in Paris! The best little bistro, especially for onion soup is "Le Petit Pont".. it's just outside the Notre Dame cathedral, that's all I've ever eaten there but it was drop dead outstanding...

In Monte Carlo, one of the best meals I ever had was at Giacomo's. It was so good, I returned a year later and it was just as good. Sorry I don't have an exact address, but Monte Carlo isn't that big, so I'm sure you will find it. Also, down a small little street is a place called Pinnochio's, which is run by a husband/Wife team. I closed the place down one night by sharing a caraffe of homemade Grappa with the propriator after a very lovely rustic meal. Pinnochio's gets another strong recommendation from me.

L'Astrance and L'affriole....two awesome restaurants at reasonable prices in Paris. Been to both and loved them.
