The Kenosha Harbor market is open from 9am to 2pm Saturdays.
My wife and I spent a hour and a half there last Saturday and picked up some 10 year old co-op chedder, organic leaf lettuce, kale and green beans from a local fanatic, a beautiful large musk melon that puts any store bought melon to shame, fresh picked Wisconsin white/yellow sweet corn and 5#'s of local honey. As with any Farmer's Market, you have to closely question the sellers to determine what is really locally grown and what is commercial.
The real delight was the empanadas being sold by the Olanos. My wife had heard about these and insisted we search them out before anything else. They sell many varieties but I had the Peruvian Beef Stew and my wife the ground beef style. Served with excellent Chimichurri sauce. Thse are a baked recipe from his grandma's that they make in a kitchen they rent part of of the HALO program in Racine. They have no restaurant and are saving for a food truck. They have a schedule of the Farmer's Markets they attend and you can call or email for pickup.
The revitalization of the Kenosha Downtown and Harbor which started with the raising of AMC bulidings, condos, trolley and landscaping has worked. I was skeptical at first as the area was so depressed but it it totally revised now and a source of much to do.
