I searched the archives and found a great post on Decorah but beyond that I haven't found anything about North Central Iowa. I have to go to Fort Dodge/Mason City area next week. I was planning on stopping at Breitbach's along the way after seeing the Spinning Plates documentary. http://www.breitbachscountrydining.com/

I would like to get a loose meat sandwich and a pork tenderloin sandwich somewhere and I am open to anything else because I will have a little time. The northernmost Maid Rite is in Webster City which I can check out but I don't have to get one at a Maid-Rite. Are there any iconic Iowa desserts? I see the Letters pastry but not sure where to get those either.

After a second look I found this post about Suzie Q in Mason City. Nice.

    Hello,
Not a food idea and if you are a beer geek pardon me for stating the obvious but you might want to visit the Toppling Goliath Brewing Company in Decorah. They make an American Pale Ale called Pseudo Sue which is regarded by (us) beer geeks as one of the best in the world. It's a 100 on Beer Advocate. They have a tap room where you can hang out and try the beers.

If you'd like a little ride in the country, there's a great butcher/deli in Eagle Grove, Lewright Meats & Deli. I got some really good sliced roast pork there. It's north on Highway 17. Good brats, too.

Flipside Pizza & Pub also gets customers from Fort Dodge & Mason City. It's a little further north in Lu Verne. Good pizza.
