My lovely spouse and I have taken it upon ourselves to explore every mexican, thai, loation, vietnamese, and central merican food joint on national avenue in Milwaukee. Stumbled across a nice food find this weekend - Ventienne Noodle Shop. Not much for decor, but great eats, interesting flavors and inexpensive.

We started with some nice Loation beef Jerky (hot, chewey, could have used more spice but quite satisfactory), some good but fairly standard spring rolls. The the big hits were some grilled sausages - crispy skinned meaty with a trace of some unidentifiable spice (5 spice or star anise?), and a rice flour "pancake" with a meat filling (Ban cour? I am sure I just mangled that name badly!)

Pho for main dish - fragrant broth, tons of noodles, with meatballs, beef, and shrimp. Lot of add ins to customize for your own tastes..in fact the tray with the various sauces, seasonings and other add ins covered a 1/4 of the table. Enormous portions - neither of us hungry boys were calling for mo pho.

(There was an asian chicken noodle soup that went by that inspired some serious food envy...must try the next time I visit.)

Cost for 4 was a very very reasonable 50 bucks (5 appetizers, two pho, volcano chicken and some beef/vegetable/noodle stir fry dishe, two desserts).

(Note that there are two noodle shops on this block, this is the smaller one on the nroth side.)
