    There is no reason for those Beyond Chicago not to submit an excellent taco when you find one.

    Last year poster Thomas D. found an excellent taqueria within one week after moving away from Chicago:

    There is a most excellent taqueria in Ft. Atkinson WI, inside the supermercado/carniceria Guanajuato. Six different kinds of taquito and burrito, including carnitas, lingua, cabeza, etc. A couple of different tortas, including (on the weekend) a to-die-for Cubano. Several soups.

    They have two huge grills, they cut and prepare all the meats themselves, and have 5 or 6 different condiments/sauces that you dose your dish ad lib with. But get there early, the guacamole goes fast. They make a very nice pico de gallo, too.

    Their verde table sauce is super! And the jalapeno-carrot melange is lovely.

    Mexican Coke, plus every juice known to Latin-kind is there.

    The grocery store is fully-equipped, in one of those former Pic 'n Save bldgs, the ones with the rounded roofs. Service meats are a wonder.

    This place is worth a drive.

    We are fortunate in the metro Atlanta area. There are numerous excellent taquerias and carnicerias, as well as a huge number of places that are only good to very good. My favorite in the north side is inside Supermercado Jalisco in Smyrna. Just a tine notch below are El Azteca Groceria, Taco Mas and Carniceria San Miguel in Roswell. Just this week I discovered Taqueria Tecolotes Grill, 4017 Canton Road, Marietta www.tecolotesgrill.com and had the best enchiladas I have had in years.

    I've tried to hit taqueria food wherever I go, and I've posted a couple, two of them for sopes (love that mix of crunch and doughiness):

    Cuza Mil in downtown Pittsburgh PA. Avoid.
    Tacqueria El Grullense, Palo Alto CA - Good, fresh, I'd go again.
    Roque's Carnitas, a pushcart on the square in Santa Fe. More of a cross between a philly steak (no cheese) and a fajita, a very limited menu but perfectly done. Lots of garlic in the marinade, onions and peppers in a flour tortilla, you'll lick every bit of juice that runs down your arms

    Unfortunately, one of my favorites closed, Poncho's al Pastor. Best al pastor I've ever eaten. The sauce was so good and they did the things right, on a spit, caramelizing in their marinade. They'd hack off a bunch for your tacos (which came in freshly made tortillas) and griddle them up with onions. Oh well.
