Las Vegas: Is Lotus of Siam that Great?

Hi,
I'll be out in Las Vegas next month and I'm reading up on the eats.
I can't believe how people rave about Lotus of Siam. Can it be that much better than the Spoon Thai or other delicious Chicago thai palaces?

Better than Spoon Thai? Not by much, and some dishes will be preferable at one place versus another, and your mileage will vary.

Better than most of the midrange-priced food in Vegas? Definitely.
It's an oasis of real, authentic, lovingly prepared food in a desert of factory-built, ego-laden cuisine designed for hordes of convention-goers.

JoelF is correct. We are very lucky in Chicago to have places like Spoon, TAC, etc., but Lotus of Siam is a place not to be missed. They compare very favorably to our home town favorites...even better in some cases and they have some unusual dishes that you can't get here. They also heve a very good wine program if you are so inclined. Have you seen this post?

As JoelF mentioned: better than a lot of places in Vegas? Yes, it is certainly not to be missed.

Although I'm finding that Archi's Thai Kitchen (complete with drive-thru window) is creeping up as best Thai here for me, if only because it's closer to where I reside now..

I'm going in a few weeks, so I'll report back too. It's been a few years now, but as memory fades, I do NOT find it better than Spoon. I would say that I've never had a blow-out $27/pp feast at LOS like I've had at Spoon, so maybe that's part of the problem. On the other hand, as mentioned, LOS has some really cool and unique dishes. I've mentioned before how I love their whole grilled catfish with garlic and jalepenos, and I also love LOS's nothern style curry.

Will any of you food lovers be in las vegas june 10-12? We could meet up and swap dishes at LOS.
