Thinking of taking my boyfriend's mother there for a belated mother's day dinner.

Any other suggestions for that area?

    Hi,

I have briefly been inside 1776, though I have not eaten there. I walked in last summer when they were advertising a White House dinner in the style of Theodore Roosevelt. It is an annual event there to research a Presidential meal from an administration. I was there in July, though if interested then I would inquire now to avoid accidentally missing it.

    Regards,

We ate lunch at 1776 last summer and really enjoyed our meal. My SO is vegetarian and was very happy with a "stew" made of mushrooms and wild rice. I had a pork chop that was very tender and moist. They have a lot of locally raised foods and do a number of special dinners all through the year. They do have a website, I'll try to find it again. The traffic in this area is horrid, there is a very nice steakhouse across the street but it was easier getting in to 1776's parking lot for us, we were on a return trip from Lake Geneva.

1776 does a tasting menu of nine courses on Thursdays for $27 and paired with wined for $40. The food is very well prepared and well presented. Although the exterior of the building is fairly non-descript, the food would be classified as fine dining, and probably the best dining in McHenry Co. The chef is very creative.

The wait staff is attentive and well versed in both food and wine. The owner spends a lot of time in the front of the house with customers. And unlike most McHenry Co. places, the menu is fairly creative and the menu changes frequently.
