We're going to Italy for about two weeks. We'll be renting in Lucca but taking day trips, as well as spending some (short) time in Milan and Venice. Any recs will be greatly greatly appreciated.

I have opined on Milano and Venezia elsewhere on LTH. In Lucca, I can recommend Buca di San Antonio in Via della Cervia 3 for a fine meal and excellent wine selection (probably need reservation in-season). For typical Lucchese food, try Locanda Buatino in Via Borgo Gianotti 508 (just outside the walls to the north) or Trattoria Buralli in the center of town off the Piazza San Agostino.

I had a fantastic meal in Milan about five years ago at Don Giovanni (I'm pretty sure that was the name, but it could have been Don Quixote), pretty much a block or either way to La Scala (the opera house) and Il Duomo (the cathedral).

Great use of seasonal ingredients (it was fall: chestnuts, trevisano), outstanding pheasant in brandy sauce.
What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?
