My wife and I are heading to San Francisco next weekend. We have Gary Danko Thursday night but nothing planned for Friday night. Any suggestions for a more casual place? Maybe where we won't need reservations (we also don't mind eating at the bar).

Italian, French Bistro we like. Sushi not so much.

Boy, do I have the perfect place for you.....if you like Sabatino's here in Chicago, you will also adore E'Angelo in the Marina District..

Old school Italian done with real care....looks kind of like a diner from the outside..only has about 12 tables or so...but it's just one of my favorite casual Italian places on planet earth....

It's been open since the 60s I believe....run by a wonderful effusive Italian guy....all Italian waiters seem to have been here forever...always hecticaly running from table to table, shouting orders into the kitchen (which really is not much more than a grill right to the side of the cramped dining room)...but my oh my, what sensational EVERYTHING they turn out.(Veal, Chicken, pasta)..a true San Francisco gem....still extremely popular in a very very gentrified neighborhood..

    E'Angelo

You might want to head over to Berkeley and try Chez Panisse...

It's probably too late to get reservations for dinner but perhaps you could go to the café for lunch. If you can, you will be served outstanding food.
