Well, hello old friend. There you are. I've heard about all your troubles and have missed you so. When I asked the manager at my local Jewel, he sneered and said, "We no longer carry Baltic Bread products... unreliable." I mourned you. I dreamt of your toasty goodness with perhaps a touch of butter or a whisper of real cream cheese. And I blush when I say that I even tried the other versions of you.. but they were only temporary lovers, it was you I craved. Only you.

And then it happened. This evening as I was wandering through Lincolnwood Produce, in search of a bread like you, sure I would be dissapointed again, I saw you. You're still here! And you're still delicious and crunchy and dark and sweet and wonderful.

Lincolnwood Produce has an excellent bread selection including the above mentioned Baltic Bread along with D'Amatos and quite a few other breads from various ethnic bakeries around town. Every time I look at what they offer, I find something new. This is partially due to the fact that some of the bread is sold in the bread section and some is sold in the deli dept.

Alas, the one time I shopped at LP, I was also impressed by the bread selection -- but I also found more than one moldy loaf on the shelf. This was some time ago, but I advise a pre-purchase visual inspection.

That sounds like a rarity, since they restock the shelves sometimes twice/day. At least they do with the D'Amatos and other Italian breads. I can't say for sure about the others.
