I'm planning a visit to Trotters to Go and would like to know if anyone can give me recommendations from the menu. Are the bread/dessert items worth trying? I also noticed the sandwiches are reasonably priced, are they also worth checking out?

You know the only thing I can think of that I have got at Trotter's to Go, were some pastries. Needless to say, very yummy. But the thing that struck me on the few visits I have made to this place was, just how outstanding everything looked. It was, well gourmet is not quite the right word. It was like when I was in Evil Ronnie's kitchen at the Standard Club, and just the garnish to this dish was these perfectly red poached pears. What I mean is, everything looked like it was coming out of a very fancy kitchen, not just a gourmet shop.

I would say also, that on my few visits, it gave me a little different appreciation for Mr. Trotter. Before, I thought of him more as someone into wild, improvisational cooking, specializing in odd pairings, skate wing, foie gras and pigs feet anyone? Trotter's to Go suggested to me that he has a delicious side to himself too.

All that said, it has been over a year since I visited, so everything can be different!

I stop by there once a month or so to pick up something for dinner. I can't really think of anything that has disappointed. In the past, I have sampled the following particularly outstanding items:

    1. The roast pork leg with a big piece of garlicky crackly skin topping it. My mouth waters just thinking about it.

    2. The horesradish rubbed tenderloin.

    3. The Lavender Honey Rostisserie Chickens.

    4. The Thai style short ribs-tender, sweet and spicy.

    5. The balls of cookie dough in the refrigerated case. I like to eat it raw. The Peanut butter chocolate chip is my favorite.

    6. I've had a terrific seasonal pumpkin soup there.

    7. The baked goods can be sublime. Especially the desserts that ring practically everything in the store. They're the perfect serving size for two.

    8. In the pantry section, be sure to check out the Argentinian milk caramel. I believe the brand is La Salumandera. Its delicious over fruit, ice cream or sometimnes, just by the spoonful.

    9. Did I mention the mini-ciabatta? Light airy pillows of breaddy goodness.

    Edit: Lots of typos.
