    LTH,

Subject line pretty much says it all, and I blame Mike Sula (m'th'su). Last week at Salam, with Gypsy Boy and nr706, Mike broke out a pack of his new addiction, Cha Cha Sunflower seeds, which he's blogged about on the Reader web site. These puppies are pretty much everything Mike says, crisp, fresh, subtle, yet distinct flavor, I prefer coconut over spice, and completely and totally addictive.

After my taste* at Salam I looked for them at H-Mart but they were out. Yesterday Mike and I were hitting a few spots, Pasticceria Natalina then Sun Wah for lunch, the pea shoots w/garlic were particularly good, with a final stop at Broadway Supermarket where Mike ran in to pick up a few bags for the two of us.* A few turned out to be 10, or was it 12.

It seems a good time for snack food, first Spicy Thai potato chips, now Cha Cha sunflower seeds from Inner Mongolia.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

    HI,

Those sunflower seeds are very popular in Russia, too, though I never saw them flavored. They are addictive or at least it tickles an obsessive-compulsive nerve.

    Crack-and-eat.

    It can drive you nuts.

I usually get X iao Liu brand sunflower seeds which look very similar. These are grown in Mongolia and available in a variety of flavors from Mitsuwa. I particularly like the popcorn flavor, with anise a close second.

What I like just as much as the taste is the slogan they put on the back of each bag...."You can't help tasting it once you taste it". Couldn't have said it any better.

I love sunflower seeds but have been unable to find Planters brand, which is far superior to Davis brand and generic brands.

This gives me a great excuse to make a little H-Mart run this week...(as if I needed an excuse!)
