    Fry Bread 1

    4C flour
    1Tbsp baking powder
    1tsp salt
    1 1/2 C warm water
    1C lard or shortening

Combine dry ingredients and add water a little at a time to form a dough. Knead dough and shape into peach sized balls. Flatten to about 1/4 or 1/2 inch thick and round. Melt lard in a fry pan and fry dough until brown. Drain on paper towels.

    Fry Bread 2

    2C flour
    2tsp baking powder
    1/2 C powdered milk
    1/2 tsp salt
    water as needed

Add water a little at a time to form a dough. Knead until soft and let stand for 1 hour. Roll into circles with a rolling pin. Fry as above.

Anthropologist note: all these ingredients are shelf stable and easily obtainable from the simple shops found at many trading posts. They're also easy to take on the road to a Pow Wow and whip up for a crowd.

Thank you, Diannie - I'll have to try these!

Do you know where I should look for a recipe for the yeast version? (what they had at the Anaweim center)
