I'm feeling very happy after my local shopping day!

With my reusable bag slung over my shoulder  I was thrilled to be walking around during this beautiful day. First I picked up my farm share from True Nature, which included rainbow swiss chard and a sugar baby watermelon, among other lovely things. While there I bought Breadsmith bread and some raw milk Edam cheese.
22$ for the 1/2 bushel of fruits and veggies, 20$ for two loaves of bread, the cheese, and 2 pints of MI blueberries.

Then I went to Bornhofen's and got 2 ribeyes, 2 lamb burgers, and a boneless rack of pork - 30$.

70 dollars for 2 people to eat locally, organically, and deliciously for the next 5 days sounds & feels really good to me!

While I have shopped at Bornhofen's quite regularly for the past couple of years, I've been very disappointed with their offerings lately. On Wednesday I stopped in looking for ribeyes and beef filets. They had neither. Last week I wanted some skirt steak, but they didn't have any. A couple weeks before that, they had neither skirt steak, flank steak nor ribeyes. What kind of a meat store can survive without regularly stocking meat? Is this place about to close?

In any event, I solved my most recent dilemma by hitting Jerry's Quality Meats in Skokie while heading out to my mom's place in Morton Grove. That place is always well stocked and does a brisk business. They've also recently started carrying prime ribeyes and filets at about the same price as Bornhofen's choice meats. The meat I procured was very good, definitely a notch or two better than what I've had from Bornhofen's in the past. Although I live in Rogers Park, Jerry's Quality Meats may become my regular butcher shop.

Strange, I've never had this problem. Yesterday they had all of the things you listed above, as well as NY strips, ground chuck, pork loins, fresh sausage, beef and lamb stew meat, and a few other things I can't remember.

I wonder if it's an issue of them getting their meat when it's available, because it's local, vs. getting everything on a checklist shipped on a certain day?

I love Bornhofen's because the guys there are so nice and I really like to support a tiny shop that seems set back in time....I hope it isn't about to close!
