Shopping in Lincoln Square?

I'm moving to the Lincoln Square area at Lawrence and Rockwell in the beginning of August. I don't have a car so I'm concerned about where I could get groceries within reasonable walking distance. Are there any other markets nearby that you'd recommend for groceries?

Trader Joe's is just east of you, on Lincoln at Grace. I am not too fond of that Jewel on Lincoln, there is a nicer one west of you at Roscoe and Western. Just beware the swarms of Lane Tech students when school lets out.

If you are willing to take a 15 minute bus ride, you can head out Irving to Tony's on Elston or Family Fruit Market on Cicero. Both are about 2 blocks north on their respective streets, and provide some good bargains compared to Jewel, especially at the deli counter.

Well, it turns out that I'm going to be living over on Lawrence and Rockwell via a last minute decision on a different apartment.

Thanks anyway for the recommendations; it's at least nice to know there's a resource here for this sort of thing when I can't seem to find it anywhere else.

Now I just have to figure out the Lincoln Square markets...

HarvesTime is right there. Really good produce and more.

Harvestime is just down the street from you. They are my go-to produce store. They are pretty much a full grocery store (meat/seafood counter, staples, etc.) but I tend to hit them just for produce.

Fantastic. The guy who showed us the apartment mentioned a place that was amazing for produce and the like, and he said it was just around the corner. I can only assume that this is what he was talking about. It's really great to hear that I won't be a slave for Jewel any longer.

Though I must admit, it's going to be a tough transition learning a whole new neighborhood which I've never even lived remotely near before.

I like Harvestime for produce, their apples are especially superior, but do not care for their deli. Unfortunately, they rarely have specials on packaged foods, which is another reason I favor Tony's. As megamarts go, it's pretty good.

Actually, Bouffe is changing ownership. Per this article from Hungry Magazine, Tracy Kellner of Provenance is taking over the Bouffe space this month as the current owner is packing it in for NYC. I drove by the space on Monday and it looks like Bouffe has already cleared out.

I strongly second Lincoln Quality Meat Market. Free-range chicken, prime beef cut to order, and all for very reasonable prices. And they make a mean smoked thuringer. Actually, pretty much everything I've had from there has ranged from good to outstanding.

I was at Bouffe this past Sunday and was able to talk to Tracy. It is true that she is going to convert Bouffe to reflect a lot of the selection found at Provenance...mostly to make room for more consumables. However, she said that their definitely going to keep the cheese case and the Capogiro gelatos around.

Thanks Tapler et al for posting on Harvestime. I, too, just moved to that area and walked over to Harvestime todaya to pick up a few things. This place is a real find, sort of like a scaled down version of Oakton Market with all types of ethnic food (heavy on the Greek, Mexican and Middle Eastern food products). Their produce section is especially diverse (Swiss chard, rapini, arugula, etc), they have fresh bread from D'amatos, tortillas from Antonilco, locally-made pita...
That is shaping up into a very interesting corner with Nhu Loa bakery/sandwich shop down the street and Hella greek bakery across the street.
