Pumpkins and more at Goebbert's

Cookie and I went with our nieces to Goebbert's Farm and Garden Center to buy pumpkins, go on a camel ride, feed a giraffe, navigate a corn maze, and eat a little.

Goebbert's is a well-known, local farm and they pull out all the stops for the fall season. There were plenty of pumpkins for decorating:



...and for baking:



There's a wide variety of squash:



There's a little bit of prepared foods like roast corn:

...and for dessert, apple slices with caramel and nuts:



Goebbert's has a ton of activities, a market with fresh and frozen "take-and-bake" pies, produce, cider, candy, and a lot more. There are also more pumpkins than a couple little girls could handle:

Nice, Michael. We've been to Goebbert's in S. Barrington many times and always enjoyed it. My son is (finally!) getting a little old for it but it's always been one of our fall highlights in previous years. I do wish the on-site food offerings were a little stronger but where else can you ride a camel in the suburbs?

Although even there, they truck them over to the public shopping/play area. I don't know if you can actually go out to the patch or not, although you certainly can see it from the public area.

A visit to that Goebbert's goes very well with a literary breakfast at Allen's Corner, not far away.

Do they still have trained monkeys at Goebberts? I like monkeys.

Last year was the first year I'd ever been to Goebbert's. My family always went to Lamb's Farm for the pumpkin patch thing. I went with some friends and their little kids, so that was fun.

One thing I've been wondering as we get into pumpkin season and I've been looking at recipes- is a "baking pumpkin" a specific type of pumpkin, or is it just one that's small enough to go into a pot?

The picture of the Pie Pumpkins reminded me that I've been meaning to ask this here!

Me too. The Wife has forbidden them in the house, but I figure one would be fine. I've googled around, but apparently it's tough to have a monkey as a pet in Illinois. If anyone reading this has a monkey for sale (or knows of a monkey for sale), pm me.

Thanks for the info, cathy! I found another article about it here....so are the little "pumpkins" at Goebbert's Dickinsons, then? I can't find a picture of a Dickinsons anywhere.

Coincidentally, I was at Lambs Farm this Saturday and they were in full pumpkin swing.

I was there to visit with BBQ friends who were competing in a KCBS BBQ contest. One of the BBQ teams there, The Powers of BBQ, was Merrill and Nancy Powers, both Captains in the Salvation Army, who a number of LTHers have participated in Thanksgiving Turkey cooks and Christmas parties with.
