Were to buy some great canned Tomatos 6 IN 1 brand got a FAV

I'm on the hunt for some 6 in 1 tomatos in the chicagoland area or better NW burbs. Did any one try 6 in 1 canned tomatoes? Is it worth getting them ? or what do you like?

Never heard of 'em, but now I know that 6 in 1 is a brand of ground tomatoes in extra heavy tomato puree...and that it's reportedly the secret to Chicago deep dish pizza sauce.

It's truly amazing what one can learn when avoiding other work.

I purchased "6 in 1 All Purpose Ground Tomatoes" at Sunset Foods in Northbrook just last week--- They are an essential ingredient in my spaghetti sauce recipe. Love 'em

If you can deal with western suburbs, I saw them at Amici, a small italian grocer/deli at 63rd and Fairview (either DG or Westmont, not sure) for a real good price when I was there last week.

I imagine if there are some small italian grocers around, they may indeed carry them.

We do some Chile and BBQ contests and looking to improve the recipes with the best ingredients.. We're also talking about taking it to the next level. .

The Dominick's at 3350 N. Western carries 6 in 1. I believe that they are oddly located below the spaghetti sauces--not with the other canned tomatoes.

I use them for pizza sauce; for me, I've found they are much better than any other canned tomatoes.

I've been using 6-1 tomatoes for years for all manner of things, but mostly for Italian and Mexican cooking. Find them in the Italian/ethnic food aisle (NOT by the canned tomato sauces) of most Dominick's, or save about $1 per can and go to Joseph's on Irving Park Road.

They're pretty common and can be found in most grocery stores. They are perfect for deep dish or stuffed pizza. Bruna's book uses them in a lot of the recipes.

Thanks for the help and found some at CFS (10 count) and a buddy got me a few smaller cans 28oz.. We'll be cooking all weekend and see how the product works for us!

As mentioned above. Amici's at 63rd St. and Fairview Ave. in Downers Grove has 6 in 1 (anybody know the significance of that name?) for $1.79 as of this afternoon.

Looking forward to trying them out.
