I just moved to Ravenswood--Damen/Lawrence area--and was wondering about my shopping options. There are several Jewel & Dominicks' with the vicinity--are any of these locations superior to the others? And besides hoping from ethnic grocery, are there any specialty stores nearby worth stopping at?

    thanks!

Brad - you're a short drive from Harvestime, my go-to for very many items, especially well-priced meat & produce.

    Thread on Harvestime is here.

    a couple of recommendations:

The Cheese Stands Alone - a gourmet cheese shop, and they sell Red Hen bread
    4547 N Western Ave
    Chicago, IL 60625
    (773) 293-3870
    here's a thread

and on the little strip of Leland between Western and Lincoln, on the north side of the street:

PNA - a great little asian grocery store, next door to Roseded
    2310 W Leland Ave
    Chicago, IL 60625
    (773) 784-1797
found it mentioned in a number of threads, here is a link to a PNA google search

There is a new-ish gourmet cheese & bread shop also in that strip of Leland, I forgot the name. It looks like it might be good. It is in the space previously occupied by Bouffe (which was also a cheese shop)

    If you're into wine, there's
    Fine Wine Brokers
    4621 N Lincoln Ave
    Chicago, IL 60625
    (773) 989-8166

If you're willing to venture as far west as Kedzie, you'll find an array of middle eastern and korean offerings, and Andy's Fruit Ranch: a good sized grocery store in the vein of Harvestime

If you're willing to go south, there's Trader Joe's at Lincoln and Grace.

Then of course, there's Jewel at Cullom and Lincoln. What can I say? It's a Jewel. The only Dominick's in the area that I'm aware of is the truly crappy one at Foster and Lincoln.

I never thought I would say this...but that is an understatement.

I would second the Harvestime recommendation and the Jewel at Cullom and Lincoln isn't too bad.

Welcome to the neighborhood! Its definitely a great part of town for a food lover.

As noted, stay away from the Dominicks at Foster and Lincoln. I haven't found any of the Jewels in the area to be all that good as well, but then again, I could say that about just about every Jewel I've been in, so...

I'll echo the support for Harvestime. Honestly, though, we live at Damen and Wilson and do most of our shopping at Lincolnwood Produce, which is a favorite among many on LTH. Its a very reasonable drive up Lincoln and does great in cost, quality, and selection.

I live at Lincoln/Montrose and typically split my weekly shopping between Harvestime, Jewel (Cullom/Lincoln) and Trader Joe's (Grace/Lincoln).

There is a new-ish gourmet cheese & bread shop also in that strip of Leland, I forgot the name. It looks like it might be good. It is in the space previously occupied by Bouffe (which was also a cheese shop)

    That would be Provenance.

Not that far from Paulina Meat Market either.

    3501 N. Lincoln Avenue
    (corner of Lincoln & Cornelia)
    Chicago, IL 60657
