I'm looking for a well-stocked, affordable kitchen goods store. Does anything similar to Don's Kitchen Supply on Elston exist these days? I know others on this list miss that place terribly, and maybe you've found a good alternative?

Thanks for anything you can pass along.

There are a few restaurant supply places on W. Madison, around the 1100 W. block. They don't have much of the boutique-y cooking gear that Don had in the front of the store (Sur La Table carries that stuff...and probably around the same price...Don never struck me as a place for bargains). But, they do sell big sheet pans, industrial kitchen equipment, scales, flatware, glasses, etc.

    Christy,

This thread, as well as this thread contain useful info.

High on my must visit list is Schweppe.

    Enjoy,

This seems fairly outdated (Don is still listed, so be sure to call ahead to make sure they're still open), but the city of Chicago has this directory for Restaurant Supply & Restaurant Equipment in Chicago.
