I am not sure if this is the right forum for this question but here goes:

can anyone recommend a place to pick up a pan of lasanga in the city? I am limiting the areas to the loop/near north, taylor street area, and area from there to the near southwest side (midway area)

I want to pick one up for a family gathering and I can't think of a place to do it from.

Well, it is clearly outside of your geographic limitations. But, PastaFresh on Harlem Avenue makes a terrific meat lasagna with fresh ricotta, house made sauce and their house made fresh pasta sheets.

On a day to day basis, they always have a small 2-3 serving tray of it available for purchase. I'm sure that, if you called ahead, they'd be willing to make a bigger pan for you.

I often pick it up when I need a quick dinner for one or two people on a weeknight.

Not that far outside your geographic limits, and well worth the trip, you can get a magnificent pan of lasagna, with or without meat, from GNR winner Freddy's Pizza. It's on 16th, just a block or two west of Austin.

Their catering menu (actually three different kinds of lasagna) is available on
    their website.

Great call, Kenny. Despite the place's gussied-up new building and mini-chain status, the lasagna is still the same as it was when Pompeii was just a little neighborhood bakery with mama cooking in the back.

Langdon, this won't do you a bit of good.... but

Others can find excellent lasagna at Rubino's on S. Harlem in Tinley Park. They have also an Italian sub that many of the members of this forum couldn't lift. :D

Also good is the lasagna at Angelo's Italian Grocery and Deli at Maple Avenue and Belmont in Downers Grove. They also make an Italian beef for $2.50 that can't be beat, including peppers and jus. Their fried chicken has a crust that crackles like glass. Their whole range of deli offerings are very good indeed and very reasonably priced.
