My family did Passover at a restaurant this year, but came back to our house for homemade desserts.

My mother had a vast array of desserts, all homemade with the exception of those candy fruit slices and some chocolate coconut candies that someone brought. My very favorite is her nut torte. It is moist and delicious and the first thing I pick every year when she brings out her dessert trays. She also makes a mean orange sponge cake. My kids were dipping homemade macaroons into chocolate yesterday afternoon when they went over to her house to help her get ready.

I really should take pictures. I asked her to make another one this year, just for me.

We feasted on a recipe shared by a fellow LTHer for hazlenut torte

Despite my intention to test it before Passover, life got in the way and I made the first one yesterday am. This is a very tasty torte and our family loved it. It is calorie dense and therefore serves quite a large crowd.

I used about 1/2 lb hazelnuts and 1/4 lb almonds because I discovered I didn't have quite enough hazlenuts on hand and I found it needed to bake a bit longer in my oven than called for but I will certainly make this again.

Many thanks EvA for sharing this recipe!

    Michael,

For a brief moment I thought that was ketchup on the plate and the room started to spin. :)

Terrific looking, and I am sure tasting, desserts.

    Enjoy,

Glad you liked it, Diannie! I've never mixed nuts because I love the taste of hazelnuts so much. It's always popular. It does sometimes take longer in the oven--I think if you don't fold the egg whites in very thoroughly it stays a bit wet longer. Or maybe it has to do with a sufficiently fine grind of the nuts. I had 16 family members and friends last night, and people asked for seconds of it, not the bakery-made (Selmarie) flourless chocolate cake my sister-in-law brought.

    Happy Passover to all,

    EvA
