Does anyone know of a Spanish or Mexican meat market on the northside??
I know Edgewater and the one on 2500 w. lawrence, but am looking for a smaller, more convenient way to buy maybe in 60657 60640 zip:
thinly sliced beef, like I used to buy at del rey.
    many thanks,
    berns

Have you checked out Rogers Park Fruit Market? Despite the name, there's a good Mexican butcher shop in the back.

for 60657 which mapquest is telling me is Belmont and Racine:

On Belmont / Elston/ California, there is a mexican grocery store I've never been in, but it looks pretty big. I'd bet on them having the thin cuts.
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

North side of Diversey between Austin and Laramie. Guada.... something or other.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?

Carnicerias Guanajuato, quite a good Mexican market with both in house butcher and a taqueria. There are two other Carnicerias Guanajuato, one on Ashland and one on California.

Also on Ashland is Carniceria Y Taqueria Tierra Caliente (Was Caniceria Leon), very good Mexican butcher and in house taqueria with the best tacos al pastor in Chicago.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

While it is not an answer to the OP, my favorite mexican grocery is:

    Carnicerias Jimenez
    550 W Dundee Rd
    Wheeling, IL 60090
    (847) 229-9295

Excellent produce section. Outstanding butcher with the best chorizo that I have found locally and great marinated meats. A large sit down lunch area. Large selection of canned goods and dried peppers and leaves.

I second the use of this butcher. I have always been satisfied with my meat purchases there.
