I am looking to find some mason jars of a kind and size I haven't seen for a few years. They are 24 oz. (I believe) wide mouth jars with no "shoulder" but rather straight sides. Like a larger version of the 12 oz. jelly jar, seen here:

    http://www.canningpantry.com/12oz-jelly-jars.html

I have searched online, no luck. I know a few hardware stores in town that sell a decent variety of jars, no luck. If I'd known they were going to become so scarce, I wouldn't have given them away :-( or rather would have asked to have the jars returned.

Any suggestions appreciated. If anyone knows of a local spot to get the 12 oz. jars, that would be appreciated, too. Shipping mason jars is a bit pricey.

    Thanks.

Ace hardware has always special ordered jars I needed.
Whether the ones you want are available, I can't say.

The wide-mouth pint jars are the closest size that is widely available and have straight sides to the mouth. The wide-mouth quart jars have a bit of constriction below the mouth but obviously much less constriction that the standard-mouth quarts. Lincoln Square Hardware Store, formerly an Ace store but still buying through them, had a couple of boxes when I was in there early this afternoon. Any Ace Hardware store should be able to order this size even if they don't have it in stock. The straight-sided 12 and 16 ounce jelly jars using regular caps are not very common. Elston Ace Hardware has carried a bit more canning supplies than some others.

My go to place for things like this is Lehman's Non-Electric They supply many of the Amish and Mennonite families in their part of Ohio and can be counted on as a source of "old fashioned" kitchen and farm stuff.
