Has anyone eaten Piemontese Beef? There's a vendor at the Mt Prospect farmer's market (Sundays, till 1PM) selling pricey Piemontese beef that he says grades as "select" but is supposedly tender and flavorful.

I'd like an opinion from someone who doesn't directly benefit from my buying it, if possible.

We get Piedmontese beef from Heartland Meats and have been customers for about 8 years. We have decided it's better to pay more for really good meat, but eat it less often. The meat is absolutely yummy-- a great combination of flavor and juiciness, just be careful not to over cook it. We are spoiled-- now other beef is very disappointing. For grilling, we enjoy the NY Strip, the flatiron, and the tri-tip. For braising, their pot roast is good too. My only complaint is that because of the packaging method, they have to take the bones out of the short ribs.

In addition to providing a great product, the farmers (chances are you will buy from the proprietor, his wife or his daughter) are really friendly and nice people-- we only know them as customers, but are happy to support them. They sell at the Green City Market and Evanston Farmers Market too.
