Can somebody tell me more about these Korean grapes:
    Image

I think I may have had 'em before at a friend's house, but don't remember much - you don't eat the skin or do you? Aren't these actually wine grapes? I remember my buddy (Korean) used to pick 'em "in Philly" with his family.

Just wanted to know more before I consider pulling the $16 trigger (plus $50 purchase) - wonder how much it is ordinarily...

    Hi Jay,
I am Korean-American and LOVE these grapes. I believe they are sort of like concord grapes (I could be wrong though), where the flesh is easily separated from the skin. You don't eat the skin and the flesh is greenish and sweet and slightly tart and there are 2-3 seeds inside. Just be careful, my sister was visiting my parents a couple weeks back and ate a large quantity of these grapes there and suffered some intestinal discomfort. :)
This link I just found explains how to eat them. I couldn't really bring myself to explain how to eat them for fear of sounding slightly inappropriate--haha.

I also found this post about the YeongDong Grape Festival in Korea, with some really fun pictures. I have to get back to the motherland someday--20 years is far too long

And I don't think I know how much a case of these usually go for--can't help you with that. But these grapes are a lot of fun to eat--hopefully you can find someone to share the case with.

I was just at the Naperville H-Mart and they had some samples of these grapes out. The skins are very thick - you kind of suck the inside out and spit out the seeds. They're what I remember in terms of shape, size, and color of the ones I had in Korea a couple of years ago, but they were so sweet that the first thing that I thought of was Jolly Rancher grape candy. It might've just been the one I tried, though, because it was a lot softer than the ones I remember.

    Share?

Thanks for the confirmation - I guess I HAVE had these before, and I remember sucking the meat and spitting the skins and seeds. I wonder if there's a lot of nutrition to be had eating the skins, or if I have to worry about pesticides.

Anyways, I just might buy a box... I know we really enjoy the boxes of Korean pears from Super-H.
