I need to score some hot cross buns before heading to see my mom this weekend. German bakeries preferred. Does anyone know if Dinkel's on Lincoln makes them?

The Swedish bakery on Clark near Bryn Mawr has them. They're very good. I don't know about Dinkel's.

Dinkel's web site indicates they have hot cross buns using their 1922 recipe. We have liked them in the past.

I swear that I checked that site the other day when I originally posted this and that wasn't there. Maybe I'm going crazy.

thanks, this is what I was looking for. Anyone had any experience with Dinkel's hot cross buns? (that sounds seedy, doesn't it?)

Stopped in to Gladstone Park Bakery today and they had some very good looking hot cross buns on display in custard, raspberry, apricot and cinnamon-raisin. I didn't try any, but they looked great.

    Follow-up:

I stopped in Dinkel's Friday morning. They were selling lemon and custard-topped hot cross buns. Pretty good size with a smattering of raisins and bits of candied fruits throughout. I preferred the custard, but both were very good. A generous amount of cross frosting was a plus. Also a plus were the sour cream donuts I snuck into the purchase. Eight buns and three donuts ran about $9.50.

If I get the chance before Lent expires, I'm going to head over to Milwaukee Ave. to check out stevez's recommended bakery also. Thanks for the tips, everyone.
