    Totino's pizza rolls - the crust has changed and definitely for the worse. And Swift Premium hard salami - totally different - it's even a different color.

    Campbells Tomato Soup -- that old standby now has much too much corn syrup and could be used as a base for ice cream

    ok... i'm just so weirded out i just had to post this. i grew up on salerno butter cookies. haven't had them for over a year though. picked a box up a few days ago and just now i'm starting to nosh on them.

    they are definetly not the same at all. the texture... it's... really kinda crispy. flavor as much as i can remember is the same, but the texture is... crispy. before the cookie was a bit more softer in texture, i guess the closest i can think of is a lorna doone shortbread (of course unless that's been changed since the last time i had those). now it's crispy. crispy crispy crispy. crispy like fried chicken crispy.

    it's just weird having the exact same product all your years, and all of a sudden without warning something changes. drastically enough to notice.

    has anyone noticed a change like this with the salerno butter cookies? or anyother favorite foodstuffs?

    you got it EXACTLY teatpuller! ^_^

    texture is EXACTLY like a animal cracker. great... now i got a boxful of ring shaped animal crackers without the pleasant light lemony/fruity taste of regular animal shaped animal crackers.

    ::sigh::

    i'm not gonna toss them out. i'll *eventually* finish eating the box. it's just now what i'm used to.

    One reason could be that they are no longer made in the original factory on Waukegan (or is it Lehigh?). The factory closed down and is now a gigantic flooring and counter top place. They happened to do my new counter tops and it was interesting going there and seeing the giant empty factory floor that now houses tons and tons of granite and hardwood flooring. It kind of reminded me of the last scene in Raiders of the Lost Arc where the camera pulls back on a guy wheeling a crate to reveal a large hanger sized warehouse filled with similar looking crates.

    Again, I'm not saying they should change all Coca Cola to use sugar. I'm saying they should start offering a new product with sugar.

    Looks like even if Coca Cola isn't taking my advice, Pepsi is:

    In the middle of April, PBV [Pepsi Bottling Ventures] also will begin distributing Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, which features those brands formulated with sugar.

    The Dove Bar is much worse today under Mars ownership then when we used to eat them in the 70's.

    My guess it's safe to say when any smaller company that created a niche based on a superior taste/quality/texture is purchased by one of the big guys....it's going to change.

    The Mars bars mentioned upthread....boy, have they changed. Once a week or so, my mom and I would take a trip into our tiny little town and stop and get a candy bar. We lived in the country, about two miles from town and town consisted of one tiny little grocer. Our regular shopping was done about ten miles away in the next larger town.

    We'd drive into town and go to Eddie's. Not sure what Eddie called the store, come to think of it, but the owner's name was Eddie, so we all called it Eddie's. We'd each carefully choose our favorite. Mostly we both chose a Mars Bar. Eight delicious almonds, evenly spaced, two by two atop that delicious nougat enrobed in chocolate. What's not to love? As a teen, suddenly there were just a couple of scattered almonds on top. By my twenties, almond pieces in the nougat, if I remember correctly. I haven't had one since, so who knows what they taste like now...

    In the summer, I'd get to ride my bike to town, along with some other kids. We'd take our dimes and get a blue Mr Freeze and eat it while riding the bikes home, blue raspberry flavor dripping down our chins an on our hands. Wonder what they taste like these days? I don't think I want to know.

    This might be the greatest find I have ever gotten from these boards - As a kid I was a pepsi drinker but after the switch it was way too sweet....hopefully this will be widely distributed
