Post #1 - March 30th, 2009, 3:44 amGuys, this deal was posted on slickdeals.net. Sur La Table will sharpen 2 knives free of charge. They will sharpen the knives using their ChefsChoice Commercial Sharpener. Probably a good idea for cheaper knives (Forschner, Henckles, Wusthof) but I wouldn't trust this for nicer knives, especially japanese ones.

If you follow the ad, it says any subsequent knives will cost $1 per inch ANd they need to stay for 48 hours.

Post #4 - March 30th, 2009, 10:12 pmSo long as I live in this fine city, I'll never take my knives anywhere other than Northwestern Cutlery for sharpening. I don't mind paying a few bucks to have a real pro do the work, especially on unusual or special knives. You can leave your knives or, if you have a few minutes, stick around and watch as they're sharpened.
Not to rag Sur La Table or Chef's Choice too hard, but I always thought those types of sharpeners did more harm than good to a knife. And it doesn't take a whole lot of skill to rake a blade through one of those machines.
