    Anybody else with this problem?

I used to mostly buy it from Caputos. Starting a couple of months ago (or so) they had an odd looking jicama that had indentations like it was four things squashed together. I was harder to peel with this shape but it was OK.

But now - all that's left is stuff that looks like it was frozen or something.

I'm tempted to go out of my way to Fiesta Market or something, in case they are cornering the best (like they seem to do with tomatillos and poblanos). But I'd hate to waste my time on the drive if it's the same sad story there too.

Anybody else a jicama fan? Know if anybody has any good stuff lately?

If there isn't any good stuff, anybody know when jicama season might start up again?

You know, I notice that there's always a time of year when jicama are wrinkled, pasty, and woody across the board - even the Mexican markets near me don't have any good ones (I remember pawing through a bin once, another Mom poked her head in, wrinkled her nose, and said "muy feo, ¿no?") I never sit down and figure out what time of year that is, though! From what I googled, the season is October through Spring, but they are apparently very sensitive to very cold temperatures, so maybe it has less to do with season and more with the supplier.
