Geetha foods, skokie, source for sri lankan & kerala stu

I just noticed this place on keystone & main in skokie (block or so west of crawford). Seeing the name combined with large posters of the madonna in the window I figured it might hold some stuff from kerala.

its a pretty nice little store. They have a lot of things which you don't see very often, even at the other kerala grocery stores (malabar, maveli), big containers of red rice, many many jars of unusual pickles (seer fish pickle) from kerala, bottles of unusual sambals from sri lanka (like one that had sprats, fried onions and bitter gourd) and even fruit cakes imported from cochin.

the produce selection was pretty small, but included 4 or 5 diff. varieties of banana/plantain

they also had a number of fish varieties available, such as butterfish

the frozen food section had a larger than usual assortment of the malabar king frozen prepared foods (e.g. clams ooliayathu, meen moilee)

anyway if you are in the area, it might be an interesting place to check out.
