Buying turkey after turkey day?

Places are running their turkey for 50-99c per pound when you buy a certain amount of other grocery deals right now. I'm planning a late Thanksgiving for next weekend. Does anyone know if they remain on sale post-Thanksgiving, or should I fight the crowds tomorrow to scrape the end?

Pre-Thanksgiving sales are usually the best loss leaders. Turkeys will be on sale off and on through the end of the year, but the prices tend to be lowest now.

Turkeys take days to completely thaw. It is possible to buy one as late as possible to qualify for the sales, then keep it in the refrigerator and it will be perfectly fine for your late Thanksgiving.

I buy very little at Jewel, though a friend does who does not cook turkey. I borrowed his receipt to qualify for the $10 discount. I didn't have a coupon, though a manager allowed the clerk to scan the ad pages.

As LAZ says, before Thanksgiving is the best time to buy. Last year I wanted a cheap, industrial grade bird to use for a Tom Tom Tom (I wasn't about to waste a Ho-Ka on a recipe like that). I didn't need it for Thanksgiving but made the mistake of waiting until after T-Day and was surprised how few sales there were. This week the best price I noticed is 38 cents a pound, at Treasure Island of all places. That price is for big Norbest toms and requires a $50 purchase (not too hard to accomplish at TI). The sale goes until Thursday, so no need to go tomorrow, but stores close earlier on the holiday.

I ended up paying 99c/lbs at Pete's Fresh Market today. Not the best deal, but not bad. I simply didn't have a chance to go before the holiday.
