I know this is a long shot, but I hate to just empty my collection of Sphere magazines into the dumpster without at least checking to find out if someone would be pleased to own them. These are from the '60s-- but, as the name suggests, these were fairly global in their scope, and include things like Egyptian, African, Indian, and Turkish dinner parties, recipes from the Cookbook of the United Nations, and much more. It also generally included background on the theme country, as well as how to decorate for these events. Sometimes, it even included dress or embroidery patterns that would be appropriate for the theme. They also cover cooking out-of-doors (not just picnics, but also for backpackers) and vegetarian cuisine.

There are lots of instructions, ranging from Kids Cook to introductions to techniques to higher-end food prep. (I've been tempted to keep these just for the instructions on making "mushrooms" out of meringue.)

There are 31 issues, along with a hand-written index that I created back when I still had free time.

I figure these would be a great boon to someone who doesn't have a lot of cookbooks but would like to experiment with a wide range of cuisines. Because these are from the '60s, before a lot of stuff was available here, there are lots of substitutes listed, so you don't end up with a house full of odd ingredients, if you decide you don't really like a specific cuisine. These might also be wonderful for someone who is younger and just starting to get interested in cooking, but isn't in a position to go out and buy loads of cookbooks.

Let me know if you're interested.

I'm happy to say, it looks as though I've found a good home for these. Just the sort of person I had imagined would enjoy them -- one who loves a wide range of exotic foods and is adventurous, but is not experienced at cooking these things. I love a happy ending. :)
