a person named kris swanberg has a little ice cream business in chicago. i read about her somewhere and have the temptation to buy it now, every time i go to the green grocer, or olivia's market. the latest favorite of mine is her chocolate with sweet basil. i couldnt imagine it; so of course i had to buy it. (quite pricey at $8/pt. less so, if you think of it as $2 for a scoop). anyway, it is slowly addictive. it is very dense with tiny specks of what i think are bits of chocolate, or it just may be bits of basil. but it adds a nice chewiness. i wasnt sure what 'sweet basil' referred to. when i googled it, i found a reference to it tasting a little of cloves. not my favorite spice, so i was surprised. i find the ice cream unique and could never have guessed what the wonderful 'secret' ingredient was if i didnt have the label to guide me. well worth seeking out. there is a link below to nice cream's website. justjoan

Nice Cream (and the chocolate/sweet basil, in particular) is available in small containers (1/2 pint, maybe?) at Swim Cafe for $4.99. A little cheaper than a pint in total, but maybe a more manageable size for sampling.

This ice cream is terrific. I loved her cream cheese ice cream with carrot cake from TipsyCakes. Cannot wait to try the blueberry pie. She does tastings fairly regularly.

Heard she did a custom flavor for The Bristol - salted caramel with marcona almonds.
