Went to Lake Zurich Costco today for whole trout to smoke and saw some great looking fresh wild Alaskan sockeye for $6.99 a pound. Deep coral color and not a whiff of fishy odor. They're in packs of around three pounds. Never seen the wild stuff at Costco before, so I'm going to be totally cliche and cedar plank it on the Weber without messing around with it too much. Call it my way of celebrating the salmon backlash, as described amusingly in this Slate article.

My Costco also had tri-tips in smaller-than-Cryovacced packs for $5.99/ pound. My tray held two at just a shade over four pounds.

In other news, Jorge Ordonez is baaaack. Sam's is accepting pre-orders of much of el negociante's(?) usual lineup, but it appears they're coming back in big way, so availability should not be a problem. Good Spanish wines and good prices...coming in August.

    Happy Venetian Night.

In my excitement, I posted this on the wrong board. My apologies!

    I moved it.

Yeah, I bought some of that too, it was quite nice. Not the greatest salmon I ever had, but certainly excellent for the price.

I second the vote for the salmon....we also used the cedar planks and it was a wonderful dinner. Will be visiting Costco again for another salmon run! For the price you can't beat it!

The one in the city has had something like this twice this summer, last week in fact, but no guarantee that it does right now.

I saw it at the Glenview Costco recently.
