Local Products

As said in another thread, I am preparing a gift basket for a gentleman who lives on the East Coast.
I would like to include items that could only be found here in the Midwest. This is hard to always ascertain....
I welcome all and any ideas.

Are you looking for artisanal products or products closely associated with Chicago/Midwest?

On the local gourmet end of the spectrum, I'm particularly partial to Katherine Anne's confections, Salted Caramel and some of our wonderful local breweries. American Spoon is a well-known Michigan company whose products are sold in many of the better grocery stores around town, but I've rarely if ever seen it outside the Midwest.
