I'm a SOMEWHAT adventurous eater (though my 'line' is drawn at insects and anything that's actually still ALIVE, so I'm definitely not as brave as some friends of mine), but man, oh, man...

This probably is at the top of my list for "creepiest food ever."

I like that you've gone with "strangest" rather than "most disgusting" for placenta, but if you decide it belongs in the latter category, just let me know and I'll merge. Otherwise, I look forward to other strange but not disgusting items.

NB: also considered merging into LTH landmark "Tom Cruise to Eat Placenta," which reminded me of this great story which includes a recipe placenta pizza.

I *do* try to reserve opinions about things being "disgusting" for food I've actually eaten (since, long ago, I thought oysters were "disgusting"). But there's just no way in the universe I'd ever eat this and it's nigh-impossible for me to wrap my head around why anyone WOULD.

Of course, feel free to merge into another, more appropriate thread as y'all see fit.

I can't for the life of me figure out why you would want to eat placenta.
As for the wierdest thing I've ever had it's probably either the lamb brains I had at a block party over the summer or the still live and twitchiing raw lobster tail I had a few years ago in Kyoto.

According to the article, it looks like brisket. Slather it with some bbq sauce and it's placentastic.

zoid, don't know why you disfavor lamb brains—they're a mainstay of la cuisine française!! I've had 'em many a time in Paris, and they're AWfully tasty. Really.

Geo, I enjoyed the brains just fine but it was the first time I ever saw anyone use a cleaver to break open lambs skulls and scoop out the contents.
Once they were poached in butter over a wood grill the flavor was quite nice but I have to say it took me a bit to work up the courage :D

Ahhhh, now I understand, zoid! Sometimes we *don't* need such graphic info on where our food comes from...
