Anybody know where to get 2oz bottles of blue liquid food coloring? I am making blue velvet cupcakes for my niece's graduation party, so the liquid is a must.

I just stopped at Jewel and all they have is red, green, black and yellow. I need it for Thursday, so the Wilton Tent Sale is out. I don't have a Costco membership. Michael's doesn't seem to have it either. Idears? The little squirters in the 4-pack are only .25 ounces each, and then I'm stuck with 8 bottles of every other color.

    Thanks!!

I bake a lot and have never seen the blue in the bigger bottles...can you substitute the gel colors at Michael's?

Also, I made a red velvet, white cake and blue velvet cake to layer for an election party last fall and the blue was hard to get right. It would look blue before baking but would turn a funny green/black/blue when baked. It took me about 5 tries (I'm not kidding) to get the color to be blue. I finally dyed a white cake blue and it was fine. Perhaps it was a reaction to the buttermilk? I don't know. And just so you know, the aftermath in your digestive tract is very, very interesting from the blue dye!

Mix green and yellow . . . and you'll get blue.

I second the caution about blue coloring and chocolate cake-- I think the blue dyes are more affected by pH than the red dyes. Might be worth a test bake if you have time. For example, Paula Deen's version here looks a little sickly green:

    Good luck.

Have you ever eaten a pound of cashews in a week? Brother, now that's a show.

    Ew.

Maybe I'll go to NW Cutlery and use the blue to dye a white cake like some folks suggested above.

Sorry, but no. This is like paint, not light. Additive color mixing, not subtractive. Mix Blue and Yellow and you'll get Green.

I saw a huge jug red food color at the store catty-corner from Nha Hang on argyle. I'm pretty sure I only saw red, but it would be if you're looking for an adventure there are many stores in that area. The red was probably a 1/2 quart for about $3 so if you find blue I'm sure it'd be a good deal too.
