No idea what the "E" stands for.

The big mass market brands blend oils aiming for a consistent flavor at the lowest cost (to them), so I doubt the absence of Italian oil makes any difference to the taste.

Pretty sure the E stands for East St. Louis - which is why you got a great price.

I thought of that, but why then are they using English names for the other countries and not for example "H" for Greece? Maybe it's some sort of EU labeling rule.

Are we sure it's Spain and not Egypt? That'd be my guess.

As with the current opened jug I have, the explanations of the abbreviations comes from the label.

I don't know why which letter represents a certain country and can only speculate it might have to do with the Italian language and past customs.

Just saw the 3 L plastic bottle on sale at Valli Produce for $17 or $18 (sorry for the lack of price precision).

The label says " Contains oil from : see bottle: I-Italy, GR-Greece, E-Spain, TN-Tunisia, TR-Turkey " and mine has E-TN printed on the back.

For my everyday salad dressing, garlic bread topping and vegetable saute I'm pretty happy with this product.

I noticed that same 3l bottle for $19.99 at Butera on m last visit.
