Grocery items no longer readily available

It used to be that any grocery had Loriva peanut oil; now only their more exotic oils (e.g. walnut) are stocked. Fideo nests of any sort are not to be found, nor La Preferida rice. (Being carless, I've searched only Jewel, Whole Foods, and Mariano's.) Some of these items disappear from the shelves for years and just when I decide it's no longer in production an item comes back (Eden Select full- rather than reduced-sodium shoyu soy sauce).
